Understand the event before studying the time
Start with the distance, stroke and pool course. A 100-yard freestyle race and a 100-meter freestyle race do not describe the same distance, and a training effort has a different context from a competition. Clear labels make the numbers more useful.
Our strokes and events guide introduces the familiar race formats. The glossary explains terms that appear on the deck, in a heat sheet and in conversations with a coach.
Make meet day easier to follow
The first meet can feel busy because several kinds of information arrive together: schedules, warm-up instructions, event assignments and results. Separate them. Use the coach’s arrival plan, the current heat sheet for assignments and the published results for completed races.
Use tools without losing the context
A simple log can preserve useful feedback. The pace calculator turns a distance and time into an average using the same unit. Neither replaces instruction or determines the right workload. Bring observations to the coach and use them to support the existing plan.
This independent publication does not operate a swim team, run practices or publish official competition entries. The guides below are educational resources for swimmers and families.
