AHSAA Swimming & Diving

NFHS Sportsmanship Course

The Panther Swim & Dive Team is committed to excellence in the water, the classroom and beyond. Our goal is to train high school athletes, not only in exceptional swim and dive technique, but also high self-esteem, teamwork and leadership. Panther swim and dive has a remarkable five decade record of success with State, National and Olympic champions in the pool who are also Scholastic All-Americans and National Merit Scholars in the classroom.

Swimming is available to boys and girls at the varsity level during the AHSAA Fall season.

PAPERWORK

To become a member of the team you must complete all paperwork including a sports/athletic physical exam and pay the appropriate Booster Club fees. School paperwork and forms need to be completed through the Dragonfly website. Use Code: UZ7SVY

ATTENDANCE

Practice for the Swimming and Diving Teams are held Monday-Friday during 4th block at Brahan Spring Natatorium on Drake Avenue. You and your parents are responsible for your transportation to the Natatorium for practice. Participants must attend and participate in all practices as they are receiving a physical education credit for participation.

Please make sure that you notify our teacher rep Ms. Brennan and your coaches when you know you are not going to be at 4th block swim and dive practice. This is considered a class. Attendance will be taken and we will follow school policies on absents and tardiness.

For example, if a student is attending a band or choir activity or has a doctor apt. which means they will miss 4th block, then the parent needs to follow appropriate check out procedures. If the student leaves the school without following checkout procedures or any notification to Ms. Jones or coaches, then the student is considered absent.

PRACTICE

Practice for the Swimming and Diving Teams are held Monday-Friday at Huntsville Aquatic Center on Drake Avenue during 4th Block, 2:07-3:40. Expectation is to be warming up by 2:25. Practice ends at 3:30. You must be ready to dive in the pool at 2:25 pm otherwise you will be counted tardy. You are not dismissed until your coach gives you permission to leave.

You and your parents are responsible for your transportation to the Natatorium for practice. Please make sure you have arranged for your ride. If you are carpooling, make sure you know where the car will be waiting for you and that you report to the car in a timely manner after the bell rings.

REQUIREMENTS

You must attend and participate in all practices. You are receiving a PE grade for swimming. You must be dressed out in appropriate attire and on deck at 2:35 pm to receive all participation points for that day.

Points will be deducted for tardiness and unexcused absences. You will have one week from the date of your absence to provide a written excuse from your doctor. You must provide a written excuse every time you are absent.

Students that are not practicing due to injury or illness must report to the coach on deck. You are encouraged to participate in team activities as much as possible during your injury/illness.

There will be practice everyday that you are in school. We will not practice if the Natatorium is closed.
